La Fortuna and Zarcero, 2026

We landed in San Jose, picked up a rental car and took the slow road to La Fortuna, stopping for coffee with a mountain view, strawberry farms and a fruit stand where we bought far too much rambutan and mangosteen.
In La Fortuna we ziplined as a family, soaked in hot springs, tried volcanic mud and spent an evening in the town center while the girls played with local kids. When heavy rain made the river unsafe for a rope swing, we changed plans and found river hot springs instead.
